Landscape design
Each design starts with a site appraisal covering topography, soils, drainage, microclimate, existing trees and habitats, and the client's own requirements. That appraisal sets the brief and the feasibility options. From there we take a scheme through concept, schematic design and design development, with visualisations and illustrations where they help a client or planning committee understand the proposal.
Our design services cover planning applications and the discharge of planning conditions, green infrastructure, working drawings and specifications including planting plans, tender packages, contract documentation, contract administration, and maintenance and aftercare plans. We design for residential, education, heritage, health, commercial, retail and leisure, public realm and industrial sites.
Landscape planning and LVIA
We prepare Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) and photomontages for planning applications, supported by Zone of Theoretical Visibility (ZTV) mapping, GIS and 3D landform modelling. The same team carries out townscape and landscape character assessments, feasibility appraisals, design guidance and mitigation plans, and Previously Developed Land assessments to confirm brownfield status. Where a scheme goes to appeal or examination, we provide landscape expert witness support.
This work covers renewable energy (wind, solar and anaerobic digestion), agricultural buildings including poultry units, heritage settings, and industrial, commercial and residential development.
Master planning and urban design
On larger sites we work with architects, planners, engineers, archaeologists and ecologists to shape how a development sits in its surroundings. Services include site survey and analysis, feasibility studies, green infrastructure strategies, landscape and recreation strategies, design guidance, development briefs, and community and stakeholder consultation.
Ecology surveys and plans
Our ecologists carry out Phase 1 habitat surveys, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments, and prepare biodiversity enhancement and habitat management plans. Protected species surveys cover bats, badgers, great crested newts and other amphibians, reptiles, breeding and wintering birds, invertebrates and dormice, as well as invasive plants such as Japanese knotweed.
Tree surveys for planning, including BS5837 surveys and arboricultural impact assessments, are carried out by our arboricultural surveying team.

Designed With Delivery in Mind
Our landscape architects work within a business that builds and maintains landscapes every day. Planting palettes, materials and layouts are chosen with long-term maintenance in mind, as well as how a scheme will look on completion.
Sustainable design runs through the work: water-efficient planting, SuDS integration, native species for habitat gain, and materials with a low carbon footprint. We are familiar with BREEAM and how landscape and ecology contribute to a development's rating. Access, safety and inclusive design are considered from the start, so that routes, lighting and seating meet statutory standards and the needs of the people using them.
Where it suits the project, our landscaping and grounds maintenance teams can build and look after the scheme. Design can also be commissioned on its own.
